Captain Dapo Olumide Becomes Nigeria Air Managing Director

Capt. Dapo OlumideCapt. Dapo Olumide, former Managing Director of Virgin Nigeria Airways, has been named interim Managing Director of Nigeria Air by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Dr. James Odaudu, Director of Media at the Ministry of Aviation, confirmed Capt. Olumide’s appointment. He is expected to carry out the processes and procedures for the registration of the new airline, including obtaining the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), recruiting personnel, acquiring offices, and acquiring and selecting aircraft for the airline’s operations.

With the appointment of an interim Managing Director and the publication of a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the establishment of a national carrier in the Economist of London and local newspapers, the Ministry of Aviation announced that it has begun the formal process of establishing a national carrier and anticipates that the airline will fly for the first time in October of this year.

Since then, foreign airlines have expressed an interest in and readiness to become the primary investor in the national carrier.
