Sani Maikatanga Wins GLF Africa Award 2022 Photo Competition

Sani Mohammed Maikatanga, a renowned photojournalist from Northern Nigeria, has won the Global Landscape Forum Africa Award 2022 Photo Competition, becoming the first winner with the most votes.

Maikatanga, from Kano State, won the award with his photograph, Fishers on the Run, taken at the Argungu Festival in 2020.

Global Landscapes Forum (GLF), the competition’s organizers, is the world’s largest knowledge-led platform on integrated land use, dedicated to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement.

Sani Mohammed Maikatanga, who was born in Giginyu, Nasarawa Local Government, Kano State, has been an active freelance photojournalist since 2000, working with a variety of renowned publications including the Daily Trust Newspaper and the Leadership Newspaper.

Sani Maikatanga won several other awards for his outstanding photojournalism during the fast, including the Practical First Aid award, which was organized by the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and was the third place winner of the photo contest prize for the China-Nigeria friendly in pictures competition in 2019.

Maikatanga’s photographs have appeared in a number of publications, including Nigeria’s only free travel magazine, Fly Safe, published by Zamkah Technologies Limited.
